Here we have all the new features of iOS 18! As every year, the iPhone is about to take a leap forward with hundreds of new features presented at the annual developer conference. This time, artificial intelligence takes center stage, which will allow us to use the iPhone in a completely new way.
New iOS 18 operating system
Get ready, because your iPhone is about to experience a huge change in every way. iOS 18 represents one of the most exciting updates in recent years, with advances in the management of your home screen or the arrival of the great Apple Intelligence.
These are the main new features of the previous versions of iOS:
- iOS 7: New design
- iOS 8: Smart Keyboard
- iOS 9: iPad Split Screen
- iOS 10: Apple Music Redesign
- iOS 11: Customizable Control Center
- iOS 12: Animoji
- iOS 13: Dark Mode
- iOS 14: Widgets on the home screen
- iOS 15: Focus Modes
- iOS 16: Lock Screen Redesign
- iOS 17 : New Call Interface and NameDrop
In comparison, iOS 18 brings us new features in the design and management of the control center, the icons on the home screen, or a redesign of the Photos app that will allow us to access our favorite memories in less time. And that’s without even mentioning Apple Intelligence, which will make our daily tasks easier than we ever imagined! Let’s look at the main points.
What’s new in iOS 18
What’s new in iOS 18? There’s a ton, so we’ve selected the highlights to give you a rundown of what’s coming.
New icon tint and home screen customization
With iOS 18, you can arrange your iOS icons however you like, even if you want to leave blank spaces on the screen. Perfect for when you want to show off a part of your wallpaper that you like, or you just like screens with fewer icons.
You’ll also be able to choose a dark icon style to match your iOS theme, or even select a specific color to “ink” those icons for a more specific look. iPhones are going to have much more distinct styles!
New control center
The iOS 18 Control Center will be much more customizable, allowing you to resize each control you see in that section. In addition, the controls are now divided into several sections that will better guide you when looking for a specific control. Don’t worry: you won’t have to make any more gestures since with the same slide of the thumb you can go directly to the section you want.
Lock and hide an app
Do you have an app installed on your iPhone and you don’t want the rest of the world to notice it? iOS 18 will let you lock it using FaceID and even hide it in a special section of the App Library. No snooper will ever know that the app is there!
We will also not see any data from that application in the rest of the system sections. A great step towards improving our privacy.
Categorization of emails
If you receive too many emails every day, Mail in iOS 18 has the solution: automatic email categorization. With this, you will see the most important emails first, which the application will select by detecting whether they have urgent tasks to do or if they are from close contacts.
Commercial emails, newsletters or notifications from more distant contacts will be classified in other categories, which you can consult at your leisure and will not be permanently present in your inbox.
New Passwords app
Now you have all your passwords and other information securely stored in a new app called Passwords, perfectly protected with Face ID so that no one but you can see and manage them. From there you can edit passwords for services, verification codes or even passwords for the Wi-Fi networks you connect to.
New design of the Photos app
The Photos app has been redesigned to give you easier access to all its sections, including automatically generated albums and memories. You’ll also have new sections that allow you to access personalized themes based on the photos you have in the album.
Apple Intelligence
As part of iOS 18, Apple Intelligence brings artificial intelligence to everyone. The iPhone 15 Pro will be able to generate and summarize text, generate images and personalized emojis called Genmojis, prioritize notifications and emails, transcribe calls, generate videos from photos, and generate all kinds of content in applications such as Pages or Freeform.
All of this will be possible thanks to a new AI that can be run locally from our device, which means maximum privacy. And for those tasks that require more power, a specialized data center will be responsible for processing the data without storing anything at all.
Apple Intelligence will be the beginning of a new era that will change the way we use our iPhone, simplifying our tasks to the minimum and making our lives more comfortable. We will be able to start seeing it on our iPhones starting next year, or this fall if you use your iPhone in English.
